Cancer uses fermentation, rather than oxygen metabolism as its major energy source. Because of this fact, several alternative cancer therapies are designed to provide greater levels of oxygenation to affected tissues and organs. The following article outlines some of these approaches.
Alternative Cancer Treatments - Oxygen Therapy
There is much evidence to suggest that oxygen is a major deterrent to the creation and survival of cancer cells in the body and many eminent scientists and researchers consider the development of oxygen-based therapies as key to the ultimate eradication of cancer. There are now several oxygen therapies available, including the use of hydrogen peroxide compounds (H2O2), ozone therapy and even hyperbaric chambers (as used in decompression chambers for deep sea divers).
In order to understand how human tissue absorbs and uses oxygen, we need first to understand the concept of pH. The term pH refers to concentration of the hydrogen proton, which in turn indicates the degree to which body tissue and fluids is either acidic or alkaline.

Oxygen Therapies used in Alternative Cancer Treatment
In the following article, the author brings much needed attention to flaws in recent research indicating that “the emotional attitude of a patient had no impact on survivor rate.”
Warning - Emotional Attitude Impact On Cancer Patients
By Stephen Gruber
Does the emotional state of a cancer patient have an impact on the progress of a cancer? This very sensitive question understandably never fails to generate controversy.
Recent media reports might lead many to conclude that the question has now been answered with a study claiming that there is no connection between attitude and cancer. However, looking deeper into the study these reports are based on shows that the jury is likely still very much out on the question.
This post is short and sweet. In order to make this blog really serve you, I ask that you click on this link and answer one simple question:
What is your single biggest question about cancer and alternative medicine?

The next in my series of “must-visit” sites for your battle with cancer.
THE ANNIE APPLESEED PROJECT “began as Ann Fonfa’s personal answers to questions on natural(CAM) therapies, it has become a nationally recognized organization, and is now 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, which provides information, education, advocacy, and awareness for people with cancer and their family and friends who are interested in complementary or alternative medicine (CAM) and natural therapies from a patient’s perspective.”
“From its inception the ANNIE APPLESEED PROJECT decided to Challenge the Existing treatment paradigm, to Question the existing research methods and subjects, and to Propose new directions for both ending with true Integrative Oncology. Thus the program name Cheqpt, designed to bring complementary, alternative therapies to the mainstream as soon as may be, while serving as a place where all ideas are scrutinized.”

Best Comprehensive Alternative Cancer Treatment Free Information Sites, part 2
You may be just getting started in researching alternative or complementary treatments for cancer, or you may have been at it awhile. There are many “comprehensive” documents for purchase on the web. Some are very good. But there are also some amazing and long-standing free information, resource, and referral sites which I consider “must-visit” to get a comprehensive overview of what may be available to you in your battle with cancer.
My favorite is THE CANCER CURE FOUNDATION “The ultimate one-stop source for information about alternative cancer treatments, therapies and clinics”
They offer a crash course on WHAT IS ALTERNATIVE THERAPY? as well as an extensive descriptive list of choices of therapy; a directory of alternative cancer clinics, which, though not exhaustive, is definitely a great starting point (I located my doctor through this resource); and they also profile actual cases of cancer victors!
Over the next several days I will profile my other “must visit” recommendations. In the meantime, if you are in a hurry, you will find them in the Blogroll to the left.

If you read anything written by mainstream medical folks regarding cancer, you will hear frequent reference to the “unscientific”, “unproven”, even “dangerous” methods of alternative medicine, especially in regard to cancer. ‘Complementary’ is evolving more and more to mean merely “adjunctive” therapies, like stress reduction, yoga, acupuncture, diet, etc….while truly ‘alternative’ treatments are singled out for derision and ridicule.
The words ‘alternative’ and ‘complementary’, however, have been used interchangeably in this paper. The paper discusses these therapies in a general, rather than a cancer-specific context. Nonetheless, there is much food for thought here.
In this paper, the author has put forward relevant points from medical literature that make ‘complementary’ therapies more scientific. It also provides evidence to the widespread usage of ‘complementary’ therapies.

Recent Trends
Four out of ten Americans were using alternative-medicine and not telling their doctors(1). Chinese herbal medicine helped people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome(2). A ketogenic diet decreased intractable seizures in children(3) But according to other researches, Echinacea extracts did not prevent upper respiratory infections(4) and chiropractic manipulations did not improve episodic-tension-type headaches.(5)
These researches may have had their own flaws. But according to another article published in British Journal of Medicine, double standards exist in judging traditional and alternative medicine. In a conference in integrated medicine in London, Dr. Iain Chalmers said, “critics of complementary medicine seemed to operate a double standard”. It is thought that 60% of orthodox treatments have not been scientifically proved.(6)

Traditional Herbal Blood Tonic Recipe Revealed by Medical Herbalist
by Leslee Dru Browning
Blood tonics today are used for cancer prevention; cancer treatment; liver health, viral and bacterial infections. In the days of old blood tonics were called Spring Tonics and farmers would religiously take them come Spring Time after a long sedentary winter to get their sluggish blood in shape for the upcoming season of farming. A custom that has been lost in today’s world. Why? And why aren’t blood tonics readily available for purchase from holistic healers or from health food stores? Could it be that pharmaceutical companies don’t want any competition from herbal and botanical medicines?

Spring Tonic Article at Terrific Alternative News Site
My own journey with cancer began with my first diagnosis of breast cancer in early 1999, through my recurrence of metastatic breast cancer in my lungs in Oct 2004. I was diagnosed one year ago with less than 6 months to live. Before that, I had a chronic cough for over two years. I was on oxygen from March through June of 2007.
Today, though not yet in remission, my tumor markers continue to decrease, I am off oxygen, I have no cough, and I truly believe I am on the path to recovery. My goal is total remission by the end of 2007. Stay tuned to see how it goes!
Besides sharing with you the story of my own battle with cancer, I intend to share the large collection of information, support, and inspiration I have amassed over the years for your conquest of cancer!
